St. Albans Beat the Heat is hosting the 1st WV Beat the Heat Challenge May 23 - 24 at the Kanawha Valley Motorsports Park in Southside, WV.

Beat the Heat is a nonprofit organization made up of active and retired police officers and firefighters who show and race their vehicles as tools to teach young drivers about the dangers of illegal street racing, and introduce them to drag racing at a race track. Beat the Heat members also talk to kids about making good decisions regarding drugs, alcohol and violence.

On Friday during the test and tune session, Beat the Heat teams from five states will accept challenges from young drivers. Anyone may challenge a cop, but priority will be given to drivers 24 and under. Participants will receive a certificate for lining up with a cop.

On Saturday, Beat the Heat teams will bracket race each other for bragging rights and title of WV Beat the Heat Challenge Champ. Drivers under 24 can register and bracket race each other for prizes. Also on Saturday, the Interceptor, the world's fastest jet powered cop car will make exhibition passes during the evening.

Track management has reduced entrance fees for drivers 24 and under to just $10.00 each day and spectators under 24 get in for a mere $2.00 each day.

Fair warning, cops like fast cars too, most of the cop cars are not exactly....stock!
