Super-Smooth Track Awaits IHRA Racers at Edmonton

In preparation for the July 4-6 CARS RV, Marine & Motorsports Rocky Mountain Nationals presented by Torco Race Fuels, the track at Edmonton’s Castrol Raceway has undergone a major makeover.

In May the old asphalt from the eighth-mile to the quarter-mile was ground up and replaced. Following that, IHRA track prep expert Jim Weinert and his crew ground and profiled the racing surface. Profiling the track gave the entire surface, the first eighth-mile of concrete as well as the new asphalt, a smooth and even finish from the starting line to the top end. This will give Castrol Raceway the best racing surface possible as competitors in all categories shoot for record-breaking performances during the Rocky Mountain Nationals.

"Realizing how much commitment and dedication to the series it takes for the IHRA stars to make the trip to Edmonton, it is my job to ensure that they are racing on the finest race track possible,” said Castrol Raceway President Rob Reeves. “I probably didn't need to spend another $100,000 on new asphalt and a complete regrind of the entire racing surface, but this event is a big deal to Western Canada and to the IHRA series and I'm going to do everything I can to make the trip worthwhile for the IHRA competitors who support the series."

Other improvements are also under way at Castrol Raceway, including repair work on the return road and the sportsman pit areas. Track officials are dedicated to providing the best possible racing experience when the Nitro Jam tour rolls into Edmonton!
