Litton Right Where he Wants to Be

As halfway point of 2008 season approaches, defending Top Fuel champion holds points lead

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (June 30, 2008) – Heading into the Rocky Mountain Nationals in Edmonton, defending IHRA Top Fuel World Champion Bruce Litton is right where he wants to be. In two straight races he has advanced to the final round and currently sits on top of the Torco Pro Nitro Top Fuel points standings in his quest to claim a second consecutive world championship.

Litton defeated Scott Palmer in the final round at Milan Dragway at the third race of the IHRA season before falling to Bobby Lagana Jr. in the final at the President's Cup Nationals in early June. He has 383 championship points, 30 clear of second-place Spencer Massey…the only two-time winner on the IHRA tour this season. After struggling early this season a simple change suggested by crew member Mike Wolfarth paid immediate dividends.

Wolfarth urged Litton to put the same engine he drove to the 2007 world championship back in the Lucas Oil Dragster. He did so before the Motor City Nationals and has a 5-1 round record ever since. Litton qualified #2 at Milan Dragway and #1 in Budds Creek.

"Mike Wolfarth is a very smart man," Litton said. "When he makes a suggestion we usually listen to him. This motor was so reliable last season and we had solid performance race after race, so we put the engine back in the dragster and you can't argue with the results."

With a virtually new racing surface at Castrol Raceway and temperatures expected to climb into the 90’s over the weekend, Litton knows his crew will be put to the test…especially Crew Chief Richard Hartman.

“They made a lot of track improvements and it’s going to be hot,” Litton said. “A lot of our old information on Castrol Raceway will not help that much. But my guys are focused and will be able to get us down the track. But there are a lot of other smart teams that will be in Edmonton so we have our work cut out for us.”

The CARS RV & Sport & Marine Rocky Mountain Nationals will start Friday, July 4 with on evening Top Fuel qualifying session. Final qualifying will take place Saturday with a pair of Top Fuel sessions, one during the day and one as part of the Cervus/JCB Night of Fire. Final eliminations will be held Sunday, July 6 as part of PartSource Championship Sunday.
