Beat the Heat Returns to Kanawha Valley Motorsports
| POSTED: 2009-05-19 02:34:00 |
The St. Albans Beat the Heat team is pleased to announce that we will host the 2nd WV Beat the Heat Challenge May 22-23 at the Kanawha Valley Dragway, Southside, WV.
Beat the Heat is a national nonprofit organization made up of active and retired police officers and firefighters who use high performance cars as tools to reach out to young people. Beat the Heat members talk to young children about making good decisions regarding drugs, alcohol and violence. Beat the Heat members talk to older kids about the dangers of illegal street racing and introduces them to safe, organized racing at a track. The teams are self funded and NO TAX MONEY is used to support the program or the cars.
On Friday, May 22, Beat the Heat teams from four states will accept challenges to drag races from all comers. We give priority to high school and college age drivers. Beat the Heat cars range from 15 second stock cruisers to very fast full out race cars. There should be something to challenge everyone. The first 30 challengers to beat a cop will get a t-shirt!
On Saturday, May 23, Beat the Heat members will bracket race each other for title of WV Beat the Heat Champ, and we will host a youth bracket race for drivers under 30 with prizes for the winner.
Kanawha Valley Dragway is an IHRA sanctioned 1/8th mile drag strip located on U.S. Rt. 35 near the Mason County/Putnam County line.
